The Snail by Brian Proudfoot

Raphaé Memon’s acclaimed ‘Minutes in Blue’ made way for another bright, colourful exhibition celebrating the wonder and whimsy of storytelling. In this instance, the focus is on ‘slow making’; the process of crafting beautiful and interesting objects from timber, paper, and other sustainable materials we have a tendency to overlook. ‘The Snail’ is, to all intents and purposes, a work in semiotics. At the centre of the installation is the figure of the snail, which suggests slow, considered movement without regard for the pressures of time. Minutes in Blue by Raphaé Memon

‘Minutes in Blue’ is an exhibition of six hand-crafted window installations which explore the concepts of temporality, wonder, light, storytelling, and transformation. Each display case serves as a framed theatre stage, the layered formal shapes correlating to our cyclical life and our connection to movement, space, and the earth. The exhibition is as much about the journey of an idea as it is about its realisation and transformation. Cobalt blue forms a unifying thread throughout the compositions. Traces by Edmund Sumner

The ‘Traces’ sequence collapses the binary opposition between the material and the metaphysical, peeling back invisible and visible layers of the architectural form to expose latent resonances from generations past. In representing contexts as culturally and topographically diverse as Hacienda Holl in Mexico and Inagawa in Japan, it identifies cultural ‘traces’ as spiritual as well as historical phenomena; innate, eminently personal, yet universally felt and perceptible through an art-photography capable of documenting lived experiences in real time. Let It Go by Nathalie Mourot

The Let It Go series was produced in 2014, mainly in Tuscany, Italy. It is an invitation to an inner journey, an observation of our ability to disconnect from our everyday environment and find ourselves elsewhere. Vacation destinations often offer this liberating impulse to take a step back, or forward.

Artefacts of Mimar Serhan

Intersecting the relationship between Architecture, Mediterraneanism and Ruination, the collection of artefacts venture into spaces and places lost in time, oscillating between the past, present, and future. Crafted from terracotta, the artefacts unfold as a physical novel, narrating architectures and landscapes lost in time, located somewhere in the Mediterranean and designed by the forgotten architect, Mimar Serhan.

Contrasts by Sarah King

Balancing a sculptural idea with the relationship of jewellery to the body, Sarah King transforms precious and ‘non-precious’ materials into tactile contemporary pieces. This exhibition of Contrasts uses wood and bioresin combined with silver seeking to expand the language of jewellery by making it sculptural and by playing with scale.

The Unfinished House by Blerta Kambo

The latest exhibition at Rodic Davidson Architects displays a series of photographs by artist Blerta Kambo.

Exposed bricks, a reinforced concrete frame with steel beams poking out; houses that are incomplete, sometimes permanently unfinished. Such houses are ones of many - an archipelago of unfinished houses scattered around Albania.

Site Indeterminate by Beñat Olaberria

Spatially incorrect, visually undefinable, consciously imprecise, intentionally unclear and out of focus, in this body of work made by collaging discarded drawings and sketches from the architect's bin with his own mark-making, Beñat Olaberria delineates, maps and depicts spaces and time fragments that share a nonspecific quality, and yet can still look strangely familiar: non-places and non-moments of our everyday existence.

Starting Here by Jo Elbourne

This series of works by artist Jo Elbourne asks: “If you paused here, now, for a moment, if you noticed your own way of seeing - and sensing, what might that look like?"

Displaced Domesticity by Farid Karim

This mixed media exhibition unwraps the domestic memories of the artist’s grandparents after relocating from the once merchant metropolis of Aleppo. The pieces explore the relationship between physical and digital memory and how domestic space is remembered.

‘Details’: Architecture as Metaphor by Steve Johnson

The latest exhibition in the RDA windows features works by the artist Steve Johnson, including a series of sculptural reliefs within the boxes on Bury Place as well as prints and watercolours displayed in the courtyard windows.

A Constellation of Pipes by Janie Lightfoot Studio

An Exhibition in collaboration with Janie Lightfoot Textiles, Conservation and Restoration Studio featuring pieces from the David and Janie Lightfoot Tribal Art Collection. This exhibition is organised around a collection of pipes from several locations across the African continent. All are handcrafted using different techniques and materials and are each a reflection of the differing cultures and communities who made and used them. Each of the window boxes seeks to provide a glimpse into a moment of the pipes’ existence; be that through an exploration into their making, use, storage or purpose.

Dislocations by Jennifer Moore

We are delighted to display a new site specific exhibition by printmaker and artist Jennifer Moore in our window displays at the practice. Entitled 'Dislocations', the exhibition looks to our practice's surrounding area for its inspiration and features a series of ink and dry pigment screenprints as well as welded, paper and clay sculptures that explore how localities and places can be documented and recorded, enacting an artistic form of contemporary archaeology.

Performing the Plan: London Festival of Architecture 2022

2022 marks the return of the London Festival of Architecture with this year's theme being 'Act'. In response, Rodić Davidson have created a subtle intervention onto the courtyard adjacent to our Bloomsbury studios, an installation entitled 'Performing the Plan'. The installation consists of a custom 1:1 scale floor plan which seeks to evaluate the influence that design has on both public and private realms; creating a stage upon which the graphic spatial intervention can be appropriated by visitors through movement and behaviour.

HAND. by Agenda Brown

We are excited to launch our latest exhibition featured in our window displays at the practice. The exhibition, entitled HAND., features a series of photographs by visual artist Agenda Brown, who explores notions of communication through close studies of gestural expression. Our neighbour in Pied Bull Yard, Terry Glover from the London Review Cake Shop features as one of Agenda's inspirations, showcasing her individuality through the capture of her intricate tattoos and delicate pose.

By the Light of a Silvery Moon, Jon Spencer

We are excited to display the work of Jon Spencer in our window display. Jon’s work is concerned with ideas of the layering of history; physically, emotionally and in terms of memories. He looks to tease out stories hidden in the fabric and collective memory of the city, retelling them and prompting the viewer to look at their surrounds anew.

The Artist’s Sketchbook, A Wiseman

Our Winter 2019 exhibition celebrates the work of Albany Wiseman, a local artist particularly known for his scenes of London. Albany has lived in Bloomsbury for many years and used to have a studio in Pied Bull Yard.

A Day at the Architects by Paul Spooner

We are proud to announce our new window exhibition with works by automata maker, Paul Spooner. “The plan is to make six objects; one for each of the six windows looking onto Bury Place. Two are done, two are thought of and two are neither done nor thought off.”

Garden Birds by Anna Dickerson

We have been working on a new studio for our friend, Anna Dickerson. Anna has painted a series of beautiful jewel-like paintings of birds in her garden and these form the new window display in our office.

Memories of a Craftsman

“My grandfather was a carpenter by trade and was extraordinarily talented; he should have been a cabinet maker. I recall many summers in my teens and earlier where I was packed off for two weeks to go and stay with my grandparents in Norfolk where I would spend the entire time with him in his workshop. I remember the environment as if it were yesterday and, particularly, the care that my grandfather took of his tools. The blades were razor sharp and always oiled at the end of the day. The handles were polished with linseed oil. Everything had its place. My grandfather would make many of his tools and they were beautiful: boxwood handles, beautifully turned with the deep patina of use. My grandfather died many years ago but his tools survive.” Ben Davidson

Exhibits at the Practice

We have had beautiful, illuminated display boxes installed on our Bury Place frontage. Made by David Hall, they will house temporary exhibits by local artists and friends of the practice.
