Feng Shui in Bloom by Haze Studios
‘Feng Shui in Bloom’ unifies traditional Chinese floristry with British garden style.
Our latest addition to our Bury Place window display is with neighbours Haze Studios. Feng Shui in Bloom celebrates the unifying of traditional Chinese floristry with British garden style. An ancient Chinese practice, Feng Shui, is a system that harmonises individuals with their surroundings. The term Feng Shui, meaning wind and water, symbolises the natural flow of energy, which flows through all objects and life. The purpose of Feng Shui is to optimise the flow of energy to create a balance and positive outcomes.
Feng Shui has deep roots in Taoism, which emphasises living in harmony with nature. Practitioners analyse energy within a space, considering its design, layout, and elements to determine how to attract positive energy and how to deflect negative energy.
In Feng Shui, flowers hold significant symbolic meaning as they embody growth, prosperity and renewal, aiming to boost the positive energy in space or sheng qi. Feng Shui in Bloom represents how different flowers contribute to Feng Shui; through invigorating a space, rejuvenating the energy and balancing the energy of a space, aligning with the studios’ practice goal of fostering harmony.
Behind the concept of Feng Shui in Bloom are the crucial role that colours play in Feng Shui, each of which symbolising different energies. Each box reads as a different energy; red and pink representing fire energy, which can be placed in the south area of a home to stimulate fame. White and Yellow, representing purity and clarity, often are placed in the west for creativity. Green is associated with growth and healing; green flowers or plants can be placed in the east to enhance wealth. Blue and purple, linked with water, symbolise calm and wisdom, these flowers placed in the north support progress and introspection.
For those unfamiliar with Feng Shui, it may initially seem complex or mystical. However, many concepts align with universal ideas of mindfulness and the effects of a well-designed environment on well-being. Planting and flowers with their vibrant colours and natural forms are an easy and accessible way to introduce Feng Shui into space.
About the Artist
Originally conceptualised in 2022 and launched in 2024, haze studio combines traditional Chinese and British garden style Floristry. Head florist Maggie Wang sourced her inspiration from her Chinese heritage after recognising a gap in the market that would allow Traditional Chinese Floristry to flourish within the London scene. After seeing the beauty within both styles, the team has composed a style that combines the stylistic simplicity of traditional Chinese floristry with the wild, natural aspects of the British garden style.
