Global Generations Triangle Site

Last week, Annabel from the Rodic Davidson team volunteered at Global Generations’ Triangle Site for an all-day workshop of hands-on building. Global Generations is an educational charity that works with the local community to co-create gardens, demonstrating how disused urban spaces can become spaces where plants and people thrive. The Triangle Site, located behind King’s Cross Station, is the charity’s first permanent site, aiming to leave a long-term legacy.

The build process showcases different ways of building sustainably, with most of the materials being reused or natural, reducing construction waste. During the build day, one of the activities was making bricks out of clay by throwing the clay into wooden moulds to create the desired half-brick shape. Each of the bricks was personalised with a design, which will be used in the construction of a brick screen wrapped around the office space. Another of the activities involved creating wood shakes from sweet chestnut greenwood timber for the exterior cladding of the community kitchen, as well as adding to a cob wall built from King’s Cross clay and natural building materials.

With a day of beautiful weather and a wonderful group of people, it was the perfect chance to learn new skills, engage hands-on with materials, and contribute to the community project.
