During Neurodiversity Celebration Week, through a discussion of his work, including his ‘Solis’ assemblages and ‘Kinetic Brain’, kinetic artist Rob Moore raised valuable insights into how his artistic practice is shaped by his personal experience with Autism.

As part of Neurodiversity Celebration Week this March, we had the pleasure of hosting a special event to celebrate the work of kinetic artist Rob Moore. The event, ‘Thinking Outside the Box,’ saw friends, colleagues, and neurodiversity advocates come together to celebrate both Rob’s creative work and his unique perspective on the world.

Rob’s exhibition, ‘Solis,’ a series of 3D box assemblages inspired by the work of artist Joseph Cornell, have been exhibited in our window display since November. These captivating pieces, a departure from Rob’s usual metalwork creations, have been popular amongst the public passing by on Bury Place. Taking centre stage in our office, Rob also unveiled ‘Kinetic Brain,’ a mesmerising rolling ball sculpture designed to respond to different neurological states, symbolising the complexity and beauty of the human brain.

The event, during Neurodiversity Celebration Week, was personal for Rob, who was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 50. Creativity has always been one of his joys; the solitude and space in which he creates is his safe space, serving as a sanctuary bringing him solace. ‘Kinetic Brain’ is a personal journey for Rob, offering a deeper insight into his artistic practice and the way he perceives the world.

A special thank you to Rob Moore for sharing his incredible work and personal story with us.
