Grade II Listed Georgian Mansion, Yorkshire

Brandsby Hall, Yorkshire

Grade II* Listed Country House

Brandsby Hall is an early Georgian mansion in the village of Brandsby, close to Easingwold in North Yorkshire. Its original medieval core was much altered and enlarged in the reign of King George II. The house was once the ancestral seat of the Cholmeley family.

The new owners of Brandsby Hall instructed Rodic Davidson Architects to improve the property so as to provide up-to-date residential accommodation within the brief for a general conversion and upgrading of the overall complex of buildings. Proposals for the complex included:

  • The Main House, Grade II* listed: A number of internal alterations were proposed as well as a new extension to the rear to provide a dining room with open views towards the re-landscaped courtyard and the converted stables.
  • The Courtyard, within the curtilage of Grade II* listed building: New landscaping to the courtyard will provide an external ‘living room’ and conceal roof lights to a basement below.
  • A New Basement, within the curtilage of Grade II* listed building: This will be located under the courtyard and will provide an internal link between the main house and the converted stable buildings. The basement will also accommodate a swimming pool, spa, sauna, cinema and sitting area.
  • The Stables, in themselves Grade II listed and within the curtilage of Grade II* listed building: Will be converted to provide staff and guest accommodation, an indoor pool, squash court, and a garage.
