Our client, a large national pub company, wished to redevelop a public house on a large plot in a prime Oxfordshire village. The public house had been loss-making for many years and was deemed not to be commercially viable. Located in the heart of the village, the site formed part of the Conservation Area and was also sandwiched between several surrounding Listed buildings.
Our brief was to redevelop the site and to design and obtain planning consent for new houses.
We responded by using a simple pallet of materials – Cotswold stone, timber and slate. We paid very careful attention to the way that the buildings were positioned within the varied streetscape. We entered into pre-application dialogue and won their support for the restrained yet contemporary design approach.
