Four Contemporary Studio Apartments in Westminster

This thin sliver of a building adjoins the Grade 2 Listed Playhouse Theatre on the corner of Northumberland Avenue and The Embankment. The property had a floor plate of less than 40sqm over 5 floors and also acted as a secondary means of escape for the Theatre. The building was used for offices – with one open-plan office per floor. Our overseas client sought to maximise the value of the property by changing the use to residential and creating 4 self-contained 4 pied-a-terre apartments.

We had a wide scope of appointment that included Project Management and Interior Design. Our designs had to take into account the very strict parameters imposed by the Listed building. The change of use required the apartments to comply with the latest environmental and acoustic Building Regulations.

Our contemporary architectural design incorporated direct lift access to each apartment. The lift was swipe-card coded to maintain security. We developed a high quality, contemporary design specification. Space was limited, so each apartment had a walk-in wet room instead of a bath. Under floor heating was specified throughout and each apartment incorporated moveable screens to allow for flexible living.
