Rodić Davidson Architects were appointed to provide architectural services to redevelop a public house on a prominent corner plot in Wapping, London, E1 The 3 storey public house was surrounded by larger buildings, thereby setting a useful precedent in terms of height.

Our brief was to redevelop the site with a residential led scheme. We engaged at an early stage with Tower Hamlets Planning Department and held detailed discussions regarding the proposed development mix. The planners wanted a commercial use to be retained at ground floor level and they accepted the principle of residential development on the upper floors. The site location was on a very busy arterial road into central London. Our design for the residential apartments responded to this by enclosing terraces within the building envelope – thereby meeting the residential architectural standards imposed by the planning department, but also allowing for as much privacy as possible. The contemporary architectural design accommodated an efficient core with lift, providing direct access to the residential apartments. The building was designed to meet the highest sustainability standards with the entire roof area being devoted to solar generation.
