Refurbishment of a Public House in Holborn, London
Completed 2011, Developer Client
RD Architects, London Office
Our client, a national brewery company, sought to refurbish this well known Public House. Prominently situated at the border of Covent Garden, Bloomsbury and Holborn, the building was purpose-built as a public house at the turn of the 20th Century.
We undertook a phased programme of refurbishment work, starting with the conversion and upgrading of 3 self-contained apartments. We then moved to refurbish the public house itself and to create a managers apartment on the upper floor. We obtained consent to restore the original 1st floor rooms for public use.
Acting as Conservation Architects, we took a sensitive approach to the design, at all times carefully researching historical documents and drawings in order to faithfully restore, wherever possible, the original plan layout and architectural design.
